The Ariel Acoustic Swing
The Ariel Consort is a rotating cast of customized instrumentalists specializing in acoustic vintage swing, folk and classic tunes played mostly on orchestral instruments, but with the inclusion of a guitar for rhythm and harmony. This group is ideal for wedding ceremonies, cocktail hours, receptions, winery happenings or dinners of any kind.
The Ariel Consort starts with chamber instruments such as violin, flute and cello, and then morphs them into elegantly organic early jazz/swing groups with the inclusion of a guitarist. Hearing old jazz tunes and pop classics rendered on chamber instruments with guitar has appeal to a wide audience.
The flute player, Jen Bernard, also sings, so the group can do vocal numbers from the annals of '20s-'30s vintage swing, plus some classic rock/indie rock/'80s in a fun acoustic string context. The cellist is also versatile and can play in an upright bass style, helping hold down the rhythm section along with the guitarist.
The Ariel Consort also offers a huge repertoire of vintage swing/hot jazz, plus a large catalog of folk music from many cultures, and a rich lot of chamber music as well.
Some of The Ariel Consort’s favorite tunes to play:
Ashokan Farewell
Cantina Band (from Star Wars)
In a Sentimental Mood
Black Orpheus
It’s Only a Paper Moon
Dream a Little Dream of Me
La Vie en Rose
Fields of Gold
Besame Mucho
When clients have a special tune that’s not in our repertoire, we can create custom arrangements for people with our professional arrangers Dylan and Owen, whose rates are very reasonable.
This group is ideal for times when you need a band without a complicated sound production footprint, since we play through small, portable amps.
