Our friend Donna Cole from Pearl & Roses Weddings helped connect us with Heather & Brian, whose West End Ballroom wedding was pure ‘30s Deco. We customized a vintage swing sextet featuring Pete Krebs + guest vocalist Jen Bernard, plus the fun touch of an era-specific cornet. Photo credit: Ivan McLellan
When it was time for Tri-Met to unveil the long-awaited Tillikum Crossing pedestrian bridge, we had the pleasure of partnering with local event mavens April Severson and Cindy Thompson to provide music for various celebrations within the opening weekend, including the VIP reception and the Orange Picnic itself. It was a joy booking the wedding music for our dear friend (and colleague) Jocelyn from Ella Events Sisters-based folk trio Honey Don’t sparked the Americana fire for the rehearsal dinner. Then an Ariel Consort acoustic duo of Jen + Nelly “rocked” an eclectic ceremony program of Ashokan Farewell, Shenandoah and Whole Lotta Love on guitar/vox + violin. DJ Jimbo spun the night into a frenzy with his ‘90s hip-hop party jams. Photo credit: Leah Verwey
The Ariel Consort vintage jazz trio of David, Dylan and Jen cleaned up real nice for our deep dive into the annals of vintage swing standards and secular holiday tunes, prompting unscripted sing-alongs and even some dancing at the Tiffany & Co. holiday fete. This was the first VIP event that our Portland store had ever hosted, a grand success that’s since been repeated thrice with the same musicians. Photo credit: Shannon Barber
The Libertine Belles brought the Tin Pan Alley to SW Portland, performing their saucy and delicious Deco-era 3-part harmony for a swanked-out cocktail soiree at the historical Elysian Ballroom, an Eyes Wide Shut-themed “party before the party” gathering for one of Portland’s most magnanimous and storied hoteliers. Local R&B/soul stalwart vocalist/bandleader Malcolm Noble brought the old-school party jams to Annie and Blake’s wedding reception at McMenamin’s Edgefield with his band of funky cats, Cool Breeze. The band was grooving so hard during the reception that the clients wouldn’t let them leave. Photo credit: Annie McGhee
When Apple Inc. wanted to reward its hardworking employees for their long hours launching the new iPhone, they partnered with The House of Cards Music to fly the Karaoke From Hell band down to San Francisco for a rowdy party at fancy Market district venue Verso. The live rock band karaoke party threatened to spill over into the next day, proving what we already knew: Tech industry professionals can really get down. The band got a repeat invitation to come back next time Apple throws a big blowout. Photo credit: Karaoke From Hell Band
Mysterious, gothic Astoria set the tone for the nuptials of Susan and Daniel, who married near a lighthouse, then celebrated their reception in style at Fort George Brewery. The Pete Krebs Trio kept things swinging while the kegs were flowing. We had the pleasure of working with Events by Muse and coordinator Tarah Trump. Photo credit: Brittany Lauren
With two weeks’ notice to produce the event, we partnered with Vibrant Table, Team Enterprises Production and Left Bank Annex to book entertainment for a Bacardi International Bartending Competition, an event which was happening in various cities all across the USA. Featured talent included a LED cyclist/contortionist, AWOL aerial acrobats and traditional Brazilian samba + dance troupe Bloco Alegria. Photo credit: Team Enterprises.
A couple’s private property was literally transformed into a “hobbit chic” Tolkien dreamscape under the brave direction of wedding coordinators Bridal Bliss. Guests arrived to a Highland bagpiper in the mist and a custom Ariel Consort ceremony septet of Celtic harp, flute, violin, cello, uilleann pipes, percussion and guitar. During the reception, trad. Celtic quartet Na Rosai built the evening to a fever pitch. Photo credit: Dylan Howell
A dream came true for vintage swing band The Stolen Sweets when we were asked to headline an evening at Preservation Hall, a legendary New Orleans venue (and treasured church of trad. jazz). It was an honor and thrill to perform the music of the legendary Boswell Sisters in the very city where they developed their unique musicality. Photo credit: Cicely Thrasher
Our dear friend (and DJ colleague) Eric Wright coordinated AND officiated the nuptials of his longtime best friend David. Upon arrival onto this magically transformed private property, guests encountered an Ariel Consort solo cellist playing in the forest, then segued into the cocktail hour gypsy jazz of the Tracy Kim Trio, before settling into the retro swing of The Notables, and late-night dance fever courtesy of All Wright Music. When our friend and musical colleague Willie Matheis (arguably one of best tenor players in town) was severely injured, the musical community banded together to raise money for his medical bills and living expenses. We partnered with Ford Food & Drink, The Stolen Sweets, Ural Thomas & the Pain, The Starella Sisters, Darrell Grant and many other artists to raise a few lifesaving Gs for our buddy Willie. When long-time loves Michelle and Eddy decided to tie the knot, Jen worked with groom and cinema music aficionado Eddy Tonkin to customize special arrangements of his most-loved cinematic pieces. To best articulate the music, we created a custom mini orchestra of pedal harp, 2 flutes, 2 violins, 2 violas and 2 cellos. It was a distinct pleasure working with the fine coordinators at Bridal Bliss in a setting as gorgeous as the Portland Art Museum.Photo credit: Mosca Studios
The Portland Art Museum’s annual volunteer appreciation event happened to coincide with Cinco de Mayo. Mariachi Viva Mexico delighted guests as they arrived, while the incendiary AfroCuban salsa of Pilon D’Azucar kept the conga lines going all night, in celebration of the hardworking volunteers who pitch in to keep the museum going. The beautiful and majestic King’s Estate Winery unveiled a private trunk show for international celebrity jewelry designer Marco Bicego, in partnership with Becky Hart from Event Crush and Skeie’s Jewelers. Guests enjoyed the elegant chamber stylings of an Ariel Consort violin + cello duo as they perused the bling and received custom engravings. Photo credit: Becky Hart
