Pete Krebs Swing Trio
The romantic and timeless music of the gypsy guitarist Django Reinhardt and the great acoustic swing musicians of the 1930s provide the backdrop for Pete Krebs Swing Trio, the Portland music legend's latest musical offering on the heels of such notable projects as Hazel, Golden Delicious, The Kung Pao Chickens, The Stolen Sweets, Django's Tigers and the Portland Playboys.
The Hot Jazz rhythms and Gypsy Swing melodies feature Nat King Cole-inspired standards, Sweet and Lowdown-style foxtrots and fiery Eastern European folk tunes mixed with humor, sweetness and virtuosity.
The Pete Krebs Trio has a core trio of Pete (vocals/guitar) + 2nd guitar + upright bass, but can add custom instrumentation along the way to build a larger group, featuring swing violin, horns (clarinet, sax, cornet, trumpet) or even a drummer. Pete’s group has a simple sound production footprint and can fit into lots of small spaces.
Pete Krebs has been a fixture on the NW music scene for close to two decades and has appeared nationally and internationally with artists as diverse as Elliott Smith, Pearl Jam, Pearl Django, Nirvana, The Holy Modal Rounders, Robin Nolan and Wilco, and has been featured in publications ranging from Spin and Rolling Stone to the NY Times and NE Portland's own Cully Neighborhood Newsletter. An in-demand private music teacher, he performs regularly as a soloist and with a variety of ensembles around town.
